Team Ready celebrated the culmination of a hectic twelve months with an action-packed Christmas party on Friday.
Tradition dictates that we wrap up any outstanding work in the morning before diverting the phones, locking the office and heading out to take part in an activity of some kind.
This year we plumped for clay pigeon shooting. So on went the tweed, the flat caps and, inexplicably in Jake’s case, some riding jodhpurs, before we headed up to beautiful Kelston in the North Somerset hills.
Thankfully, the weather was dry and sunny, if not a little cold. We took turns to shoot in pairs, with our hosts challenging us with a range of targets from clays that rose and dipped almost instantly to speeding missiles that shot over our heads.
Despite the chilly conditions, it was really good fun – so much so that many of us lost count of our overall hits. Also, we were perhaps too focused on trying to look the part.
But there was a general consensus that our senior developer Martin probably edged it. So from now on, we’re referring to him simply as The Jackal.
From there, we headed for a bite to eat before warming our frozen fingers with a spot of bowling – beautifully synchronised across two lanes at times.
New business director Dave triumphed in that contest. Following which, it was back to the office for a quick costume change before we hit the town.
A few civilised drinks at Bath’s finest cocktail bar Framptons were followed by a decidedly less civilised evening at the Hilton Bath, where we ate, drank and danced the night away in style.
All in all, it was yet another classic Ready Christmas party! Fun, action-packed and memorable. (Apart from the end of the night. That bit gets a little hazy…)
