Here we are again, folks. Let’s celebrate three more South West-based businesses making headlines for all the right reasons. That’s what we do in this little monthly feature we like to call Best of the West.
We’ve gone big this month, with three major players in their own fields. Come to think of it, two of them actually do have their own fields…
Last month, NFL team the Atlanta Falcons played their first game in their new home, the $1.5bn, 71,000 seater Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Forbes describes the stadium as simply the “best ever”, with its “breathtaking” retractable roof drawing particular praise for its architectural and engineering brilliance.
Brilliance which emanated from the historic city of Bath.
Bath-based engineering consultants BuroHappold played a major role in designing the stadium’s revolutionary roof.
In partnership with architects HOK, they had to ensure the mechanism didn’t block spectators’ views of the 360° ‘halo’ video screen that sits just below it.
So, utilising the very latest materials, technology and engineering techniques, the team developed a stunning ‘camera shutter’ design which closes in just eleven minutes.
It really is a sight to behold.
With BuroHappold being just a few doors down the road from us, we’re hoping to get an invite to the stadium to experience it for ourselves. Surely that’s what good neighbours should do, right?!
Ok, a slight confession. The big news from Sheppy’s happened a few months ago. But hey – we make the rules around Best of the West, so we can break them.
Back in April, the 200 year-old cider makers based in Taunton, Somerset, decided it was time for a major rebrand. Sheppy’s is real premium cider, and the company wanted to reinforce this in a market that is currently experiencing considerable growth at the premium end.
The result is a clean, fresh new look to a core range which has been streamlined to consist of seven variants.
We love its balance of contemporary design and brand heritage. So, despite not being as current as our usual BOTW-featured news, we decided to include it – and also because a few of our team have recently become serious Sheppy’s fans.
With a nice big fridge in our new office, we’ll be sure to have a few bottles ready for Friday drinks. Although they may well disappear before Friday afternoon…
The Stoop isn’t quite as close to our office as BuroHappold, but we’re still proud to call Bath Rugby our neighbours. (Bath isn’t a huge place, after all).
This week, we were very pleased to see that the club announced Land Rover as a new official partner.
The deal is a major one for both sides, with Land Rover cementing their long-standing commitment to rugby and Bath gaining the association and support of a renowned global brand.

Great news for all involved, and for the Bath community, with whom Land Rover have promised to “further engage”.
Hopefully this means working with grassroots rugby clubs to develop the next generation of stars.
And a few Land Rovers dished out to local creative agencies wouldn’t go amiss either.
